Awesome Blog!

I recently came across this blog on pinterest. It was posted as offering weekly lessons on using your DSLR camera to get amazing pictures. Aimee is a mom with a photographer hubby who is teaching us how to use our fancy cameras...without the fancy, technical terms.

The second week focused on aperture. Here is what I learned. Aperture regulates how much light is let into the camera. The lower the aperture, the more light that is let in. And vice versa. Following Aimee's instructions, I set my ISO and white balance to auto and turned my command dial to A (aperture priority). This lets me change my aperture as I wish. I took a couple of test shots while changing my aperture. Here are just a few!

f/5.3

f/8

f/14

See how the background becomes more in focus as I raise my aperture? Interesting...very interesting.
Also interesting, the higher my aperture, the slower my shutter speed.

I love Aimee's explanations! They are so easy to understand. It's exactly what I needed, a mom teaching me how to use my camera...as opposed to a photography teacher teaching me. This weeks assignment focuses on shutter speed. Go check her blog out!

I think I will start thinking of names for my future photography business now....

  1. Awesome pics!!! I'm totally impressed! Thanks for the question about setting aperture in Auto...in Shutter Priority mode, the aperture automatically changes to Auto! So if you've changed your ISO and White Balance to auto...you should be totally ready to work with your Shutter Speed!!! Thanks for checking with me!

  2. Been meaning to comment for a while now!

    1. Your Christmas looked like so much fun! Hayes is precious, and Anniston definitely has the exact same owl hat but in pink!

    2. I TOTALLY understand the simplify goal. PS: Remember when David Uth would pick a word for the year? Such a great man and such a good idea...

    3. I have the 50mm 1.8 lens, and I NEVER take it off. SO SO wonderful!!! Your pictures look great!!! Going to check out the site!
